An enchanted Africa

Photographer Nick Brandt’s images of the wild animals in East Africa are unashamedly idyllic and romantic.
Photographer Nick Brandy gets extremely close to very wild animals, often within a few feet of them. He doesn’t use telephoto lenses because he wants to see as much of the sky and landscape as possible–to see the animals within the context of their environment. That way, the photos become as much about the atmosphere of the place as the animals. And being that close to the animals, he get a real sense of intimate connection to them, to the specific animal in front of me.
These animals are like an elegy to him, of a world that is steadily, tragically vanishing.
Nick Brandt’s recently released book “A Shadow Falls”, features fifty-eight recent images in stunning, oversized tritone plates. Available from Amazon here.
